Having tutored for over 7 years… I realise that the reality for PSLE Math is that there’s really not much variation in what will come out year after year.

So why does this happen?
What Is Not Being Done Right?
The truth is, when it boils down to everything, math is about practising the correct strategies.

3 key words here:

1. Practising

Which means when your child is practising but not doing well, you can usually boil it down to either 1 or these 2 root causes.

1. Not the correct practice
2. Not the correct strategies

Most children have no problem practising, but simply practising blindly is far from enough.

Remember the previous PSLE Math papers with nasty surprises?

We had the infamous ribbon question a few years ago…

Then the number patterns question more recently…

The thing is, if you thought those “unknown” questions were the issue, they are not.

The issue is that children did not have the correct practices and hence the correct experience to follow them into the exam.

2. All the question types that will come out for each potential topic, including higher order thinking questions

3. All the common combinations of questions types that mix topics 

4. All the higher order thinking questions that separate the AL1 scorers

It’s alot of work, but once the hard work is done…

It’s like having a map to PSLE Math — your child will never get lost anymore.

And once your child has practiced all of them.

The chances of them getting caught off guard lowers significantly.

They will have all they need to score AL1…

They won’t have nasty surprises at exams… 

And they can just concentrate on identifying the correct strategy and applying it to solve each and every question that comes out.
